Program For Mental Health, Pain, and Illness

Program Overview

AIGAS’s Mental Health, Pain, and Illness Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs, situated at the Northbrook location, cater to adults aged 18 and above grappling with mental health challenges intertwined with various medical diagnoses and physical symptoms. Our dedicated team at AIGAS guides participants through skill development, obstacle navigation, and cultivating new perspectives—all with the overarching aim of comprehending and leveraging the mind-body connection. The Mental Health, Pain, and Illness IOP Program underscores the acceptance of symptoms, increased movement, Relaxation Therapy cultivation, and the challenge of distorted perceptions and fear-avoidance beliefs. Our therapeutic modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in group, individual, and family therapy settings.

What to Expect

At AIGAS, our multidisciplinary team crafts an individualized treatment plan for each patient, comprising:

  • Full mental health evaluation
  • Regular psychiatric consultations with a dedicated psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner
  • Daily structured group therapy
  • Regular individual therapy sessions with a dedicated individual therapist
  • Regular family therapy sessions with a dedicated family therapist
  • Experiential therapies such as art therapy, movement therapy, yoga, or Relaxation therapy
  • Ongoing reassessments and modifications to the treatment plan
  • Resource therapists providing executive functioning and vocational support

Our treatment plans are customized to each individual’s needs, adapting throughout treatment. Participants collaborate with therapists specializing in Mental Health, Pain, and Illness IOP, regularly meeting with a psychiatrist for psychiatric medication management. Pain medication management is coordinated with the patient’s non-AIGAS care team to ensure seamless care coordination. The group therapy model fosters connection, normalization of experiences, and group accountability. This personalized approach supports individuals in progressing towards a meaningful and functional life.
